SALINA - HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-IA-01

Scalable macroalgae cultivation systems for innovative applications in the food, cosmetic and construction sectors

CER Groupe Coordinator: Ana Fernandez Salina

The SALINA project aims to optimise macroalgae cultivation and full biomass valorisation through cascade biorefinery processes. This approach enables marine biomass to be transformed into high-value ingredients and materials for various sectors, including food, cosmetics and bio-based materials. The developments target functional extracts, peptide-, polysaccharide- and fibre-rich ingredients, as well as product prototypes designed for further industrial application.

Within SALINA, CER Groupe contributes to the biological characterisation and safety validation of macroalgae-derived extracts and ingredients. Activities include the assessment of bioactivity, digestibility and cytotoxicity, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory testing. These activities rely on CER Groupe’s capabilities in in vitro studies, analytical support and non-clinical evaluation of bioactive products, helping document the functional potential and safety of the developed ingredients for food and cosmetic applications.
